It has been a down slide year for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. After being benched for the rest of the year due to poor performance, Kaepernick suffered a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder which put him on the injured reserve list.
Last week, it was reported that the 49ers are still open in bringing Kaepernick to start for the team since he is guaranteed $11.9 million if he still on the roster on April 1. Kaepernick was benched for backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert while his recovery time is four to six months from the surgically repaired shoulder. Gabbert is currently 1-2 at the starting quarterback position for the 49ers.
Kaepernick completed 59 percent of his passes this season before he was benched for 1,615 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions, which garnered him a 78.5 passer rate which was the fifth-lowest rating among NFL qualified quarterbacks. In the past, he has led the 49ers to two straight NFC championships with a bid to Super Bowl XLVII against the Baltimore Ravens where they would lose to the latter team.
