Major League Baseball’s Opening Day will be here in the blink of an eye. Let’s break down each team’s prognosis heading into the 2021 season, following an abbreviated 2020 season.
The Texas Rangers have missed the playoffs in each of the past four seasons. Texas has appeared in the World Series twice in their 60-year history and lost both times. In total, they have only made eight trips to the postseason. In 2020, the Rangers posted a 5.02 ERA, which was 23rd in the Major League Baseball. The offense didn’t fare much better, also ranking 23rd in home runs with a total of 62 long balls. Texas probably won’t make the postseason from the looks of their roster, but they will likely show signs of improvement.
Here are the Rangers’ projected starters.
The Rangers made quite a few moves during free agency. For starters, Texas lost starting pitcher Corey Kluber and outfielder Shin-Soo Choo. Texas also signed outfielders David Dahl and Delino DeShields along with starters Koei Arihara and Mike Foltynewicz. The Rangers acquired first baseman Nate Lowe and starter Dane Dunning via trades with the Rays and White Sox, respectively.

In early February, Texas also sent a haul containing shortstop Elvis Andrus and catcher Aramis Garcia to the Oakland A’s for outfielder Khris Davis, catcher Johan Heim, and pitcher Dane Acker. Regarding the starting rotation, the back-end looks improved, but they are not competitive as a whole. However, their bullpen is looking sharp thanks to relievers Jose Leclerc and Jonathan Hernandez.
Looking at the Rangers’ offense, outfielders Joey Gallo and Khris Davis, along with second baseman Rougned Odor, are power bats. However, they need to make contact during plate appearances. Dahl and Lowe will improve the starting lineup and have the potential to bring offensive power to the team in 2021. With all of this in mind, it is unlikely that the Rangers will make the postseason, but they should be better than they were in 2020.
