Wyndham Clark continues his golf journey through its highs and lows, speaking out after booing fans disrupted his U.S. Open win.
He recently won the U.S. Open, but New York fans didn’t embrace him. Fans heckled him throughout the final round, yelling things like “Don’t choke!”— but he didn’t.
“Man, they definitely didn’t want me to win,” Clark said afterward. “It’s pretty rare in an Open Championship or a major to have fans kind of boo against your shots or cheer for bad shots. I mean, that was tough, but sometimes being the underdog is nice.”
Clark’s rise first reached a new level when he won the 2023 U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club. Entering the tournament as a talented player still searching for consistency, Clark delivered four days of clutch golf and held off some of the biggest names in the sport to claim his first major championship.
The victory immediately changed the way Clark was viewed across the golf world. Before winning a major, he had spent years grinding on the professional circuit, dealing with missed cuts, pressure and questions about whether he could win at the highest level.
His emotional celebration after winning the U.S. Open was one of the defining moments of his career. He dedicated the victory to his mother, Lise, who died of cancer when he was younger.
Away from the course, Clark has been open about the mental side of golf. He has discussed the importance of confidence, handling emotions and maintaining belief when results aren’t going his way. As Clark continues, his goal remains to win more championships, proving this is just the beginning of his career.
