Watch: Odell Beckham Jr. Injures Ankle In Giants’ Catastrophic Loss To Chargers
The New York Giants are experiencing nearly every possible setback this season.
Odell Beckham Injury News
On Sunday, the team suffered a devastating 27-22 home loss to the Los Angeles Chargers to extend their winless record to 0-5. The Chargers had also been undefeated entering Sunday’s game and are now 1-4.
With four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, as New York led 22-20, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. went down with an ankle injury while attempting to make a catch over cornerback Casey Howard. Beckham was thus carted off the field.
Beckham’s injury was reported as a broken fibula, and followed those of three other Giants wideouts: Dwayne Harris, Sterling Shepard and newly-acquired Jets star Brandon Marshall.
Shepard and Marshall also both sustained ankle injuries and were ruled out before halftime. Harris exited shortly after the break with a foot injury and did not return.
Beckham scored a 48-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter to put the Giants up 22-17:
Orleans Darkwa and Roger Lewis also scored touchdowns on passes from Eli Manning, while Darian Thompson intercepted Philip Rivers in the end zone on a third-and-seven early in the third quarter:
The Giants also earned two easy points early in the contest when the Chargers botched a snap midway through the first quarter as Rivers was still giving his offensive line directions and the ball fell into the end zone for a safety that the hosts earned without needing to make a tackle.
Here is what Giants coach Ben McAdoo said following the loss: (he also added that Darkwa injured his calf on his rushing touchdown)
And here is what veteran defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, who also sustained an injury earlier this week but played on Sunday, said:
The Giants are now in danger of missing this year’s playoffs as only one of three winless teams in the NFL: the other two 0-5 squads are the San Francisco 49ers and the Cleveland Browns.
McAdoo’s team next visit the Denver Broncos (3-1) on Sunday, when the Chargers (1-4, 4th in AFC West) visit the Oakland Raiders.
