Addison Russell stole the spotlight at Busch Stadium on Monday night, and got caught with some nachos and cheese.

The Chicago Cubs shortstop dove into the stands near third base to make a catch during the second inning of his team’s 10-2 victory against the St. Louis Cardinals, and in the process sent a fan’s nachos flying out onto the field.
Two pitches later, Jedd Gyorko finished his at-bat with a homer. The fan who lost his snack was given a new tray of nachos from the stadium’s staff, and he even took a photo with Russell:
“He had a great night at the ballgame tonight,” Russell told MLB.com’s Carrie Muskat of the fan after the game. “I saw him catch a few foul balls, too. It’s a great night for him.”
As for the play itself:
“Initially off the bat, I was thinking I could make the play. I really didn’t get a sense of where the fence was. It looked like [Ben Zobrist] wasn’t anywhere close. I didn’t see the fence and collided with it and got all nacho’ed up.”
The Cubs (88-68) are first in the National League Central, six games ahead of the second-place Milwaukee Brewers and seven games ahead of the third-place Cardinals.
The Cardinals and Cubs face off again on Tuesday at 8:15 pm EST, the second game of a four-game series.
If the Cubs win one more game — or the Brewers lose another — Chicago reaches the playoffs.
