Getting hit by a baseball anywhere hurts, but Chase Headley was struck in quite a sensitive area on Tuesday night.

Chase Headley Injury News

In the fifth inning of the New York Yankees’ 5-2 home victory over the Minnesota Twins, the infielder and third baseman took an 88-mph pitch from right-hander Dillon Gee straight to the groin.

Here’s another angle of the cringe-inducing hit:

Surprisingly, Headley stayed in the game and scored a run, helping the Yankees (84-67, 2nd in American League East) increase their lead over the Twins (78-73) to six games for the first AL wild-card position. The Yankees are still three games behind the division-leading Boston Red Sox, who have won the first two games of their three-game road series against Baltimore.

The Yankees also beat the Twins 2-1 in the series opener on Monday, and will face off against the Twins for the series finale at Yankee Stadium at 1:05 pm EST on Wednesday. Luis Severino (13-6, 2.93 ERA, 218 K) will start against Bartolo Colon (6-13, 6.39 ERA, 31K). Severino is coming off a stellar performance against the Orioles, to whom he allowed two runs and three hits in eight innings while striking out eight.
