Warriors GM Bob Myers Is Prepared To Give Kevin Durant ‘Whatever Deal He Wants’

Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers is not afraid to say how much he believes Kevin Durant deserves a big new contract from the team.

Bob Myers: Durant ‘Earned The Right’ To ‘Whatever Deal He Wants’

According to ESPN, Durant — who was named the NBA Finals MVP for the second straight year — “could sign for as long as four years and about $160 million.” The 29-year-old forward reportedly hopes to stay with the Warriors, especially after helping them win two consecutive championships since he joined the team in 2016.

“Sometimes you don’t negotiate. I’d love to have him for 10 years. Kevin Durant, look what he did for us last year. He did us a great service,” Myers said. “He’s earned the right to sign whatever deal he wants. I just want him to sign a deal. But [I] want him to be happy and want him to know that we want him as long as he wants to be here. He’s earned that, to kind of lay out the terms. He can do whatever he wants. That shouldn’t be a long negotiation. Our goal, to be honest, is to try to keep the whole thing together, so that’s the pieces of the puzzle we’ve got to try to figure out.”

Warriors coach Steve Kerr has one year left on his five-year contract, and many reports say he could likely earn a multi-year extension from the organization.

Klay Thompson and Draymond Green could also see their original contracts extended, according to ESPN.

The Warriors have won three NBA titles in four years. Kerr underwent two back surgeries after Golden State won the national championship in 2015.

“I’m sure if you’re around our players and talk to them, they make no bones about it, they love playing for him, and they love going through this journey with him,” Myers said of Kerr.

Durant, a nine-time All-Star, finished with 20 points and 10 assists in Golden State’s Game 4 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals on Friday.
