Team USA hockey forward Brianna Decker is getting ready to attend her third Olympic Games in Beijing, where she hopes to help the United States defend its gold medal win from 2018.
In order to prepare for the games, the women’s hockey team traveled to Canada and played several games against their hockey team. The United States defeated Canada 3-2 during the 2018 winter games, taking home the gold medal, making them the perfect practice partners.
One of the most significant parts about competing for Decker isn’t the glory from winning the gold, but rather being able to inspire the next generation of athletes.
“I just think it’s amazing to go back to our own communities, a lot of us come from small towns or smaller cities, and just being able to see that direct impact that we’ve been able to have on some of those younger teens,” she said.
“Going forward I think that’s our goal to continue to impact the youth and continue to grow our game in any way we can,” she continued.
