The Venezuelan outfielder has been released from his Pennsylvania team after surveillance footage of him beating his former girlfriend in a stairwell surfaced Wednesday. Vasquez was arrested in August 2016 on domestic violence charges after he was found to have struck the woman several times and dragged her down the stairs by her hair, per a TMZ report. The Venezuelan was then a member of the Corpus Christi Hooks, the minor league affiliate of the Houston Astros. The team released him just days after he beat his girlfriend.
Vasquez, 24, was then forced to participate in anger management classes.
The Lancaster Barnstormers, an Atlantic League squad who had also signed the outfielder, have also since parted ways with him:

TMZ also reported that Vasquez got engaged to his girlfriend shortly after the first beating incident in 2016.
Vasquez played with the Detroit Tigers in 2010, when the team signed him as an international free agent. He started the 2012 season with the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Class A Midwest League. However, he struggled and was demoted to the Connecticut Tigers of the New York-Penn League.
Several MLB players responded to the news of the video of Vasquez with feelings of disgust. One was pitcher Justin Verlander, a former Tigers ace who won the 2017 World Series with the Houston Astros and who shared a link to a Fox News article about the video late Wednesday night.
“F— you man,” wrote Verlander, using the middle finger emoji. “I hope the rest of your life without baseball is horrible. You deserve all that is coming your way!”
