Tyson Bagent Brought To Tears After Signing Extension With Bears

Chicago Bears backup quarterback Tyson Bagent will begin the 2025 season with a new, massive contract. Though he still may not believe it.

The 25-year-old signed a reported two-year, $10 million contract extension with the Bears last week. During his press conference, Bagent broke down in tears while expressing his emotions on the new deal.

“My dad is my right-hand man,” he said. “He didn’t have running water until high school, so there’s definitely a lot of people I can certainly help with this gift I’ve been blessed with. It’s certainly a weight off my shoulders and my family’s shoulders.”

Bagent began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent in 2023, but was signed by the Bears and made their 53-man roster at the start of the season. He made five appearances in his first year, throwing for 859 yards and three touchdowns.

Since being appointed as Bear coach in January, Ben Johnson has been impressed by Bagent on and off the field.

“I’ve been really blown away by his approach from the spring to start of camp to where we are now,” Johnson said in a press conference. “He does a tremendous job knowing what to do, how to do it and getting it done.”

Last year, Bagent played as a backup quarterback for Caleb Williams, appearing four times. During the Bears’ recent 38-0 preseason rout against the Buffalo Bills, Bagent passed for 196 yards and threw one touchdown.

“I think this extension, with this staff and these offensive minds, for the longevity of my career and wherever I end up in the years to come will serve me well down the line,” Bagent said.

The Bears will open their 2025 NFL campaign against the Minnesota Vikings at Solider Field on Sept. 8.
