Major League Baseball’s regular season is set to begin in just a few weeks. Keeping this in mind, it is time to look at each team’s outlook heading into the 2021 season, following a pandemic shortened 2020 season.
After three consecutive losing seasons, the Toronto Blue Jays made their first postseason run last year since 2016. The Blue Jays won back-to-back World Series in 1992 and 1993 and have had a total of eight playoff appearances in their 44-year history. Perhaps 2021 will mark their ninth playoff appearance!
Check out Toronto’s projected starters!
The Toronto Blue Jays had an eventful offseason. They traded for former New York Mets starter Steven Matz to improve the backend of the pitching rotation. They also signed left-hander Robbie Ray to a one-year deal. In regards to their bullpen, they addressed their closing issue and signed reliever Kirby Yates. They also added relievers David Phelps and Tyler Chatwood.

The starting lineup looks much deeper than it did in 2020. The team added a big free-agent name in former Astros slugger George Springer along with infielder Marcus Semien. These moves were so important that the team’s offense now ranks up with the American League’s top teams.
If Toronto’s pitching can hold up, especially Yates at closer, the Jays will likely make another postseason appearance in 2021. However, it may be a few more years before they contend for a World Series title.
