Toronto Blue Jays Suffer Tough 3-2 Loss Against the Philadelphia Phillies

Toronto Blue Jays fans are just unlucky. After sending their much appreciated shortstop Jose Reyes to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for Troy Tulowitzki, the Jays’ second basemen, Devon Travis, left the field during the third inning, due to a shoulder injury, contributing to a 3-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

The rookie opened strong, keeping morale high for his team after hitting a leadoff homer, the second in his career, during the first inning, but it all went downhill after he struck out in the second.

The first time he injured his shoulder, he spent six weeks on the disabled list, and when he left the game, Travis said that his injury felt similar to the one he had in the past. It is unclear if he will be placed on the disable list again, but he understands that this is his job. When asked about his injury, he replied, “I have to play through it if that’s what it takes.”

After Travis left the game, the Jays lost their early 2-0 lead and lost 3-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies, who currently have the worst record in the League.

But it wasn’t only the rookie who left that game, as right fielder Jose Bautista seemed to injure his right hamstring in the eighth inning after grounding out.

And if they couldn’t get lucky on offense, their defense suffered as well. Starting pitcher Felix Doubront, was unable to secure outs as he contributed to the loss of the Jay’s 2-0 lead. His stock at his starting position is increasingly decreased, as Tulowitzki will soon arrive at the clubhouse, either taking Doubronts minutes or just snatching the position in its entirety.

But it wasn’t as though nothing good happened for the Jays. Their new acquisition, LaTroy Hawkins, made his Jays’ debut, and he didn’t disappoint, throwing a perfect sixth inning which was part of a five frame shutout.
Now to see if Tulowitzki can deliver his side of the bargain as well.
