Tony Romo Signs $17 Million Deal With CBS

Tony Romo has signed a $17 million per year deal with CBS that is said to be significantly longer than five years. This makes him the highest-paid analyst in television history.

Romo has made a name for himself in the broadcasting world. After retiring from a 14-season run with the Dallas Cowboys in 2017, he joined CBS and quickly gained popularity with his analysis, ability to predict offensive plays pre-snap and his on-air partnership with lead CBS commentator Jim Nantz.

Romo made $127.4 million in his NFL career and in only three seasons did he make more than $17 million.

In a 2017 interview, Romo expressed his excitement in making the move from on-field play to off-field commentating.

“To have something that you’re, A) passionate about, B) that kind of keeps you competitive – not everyone gets a chance to do that,” he said. “And then to get a chance to work with the great Jim Nantz, it’s kind of like a home run.”

With Romo taken, ESPN may lean towards Peyton Manning as a Monday Night Football analyst to join Joe Tessitore and Booger McFarland.
