Timberwolves’ Star Anthony Edwards Fined $50K For Postgame Profanity – Raising Total Fines For Season To $430K

Minnesota Timberwolves star guard Anthony Edwards was fined $50,000 for “using profane language during a media interview,” the NBA announced Wednesday.

The Timberwolves lost 114-88 to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals. Edwards struggled during the game as he shot 5-of-13 from the field in the loss, as he scored his second-lowest scoring output of the postseason with 18 points. Edwards also had four turnovers and had a plus/minus of -23 when he was on the court.

Earlier in the game, Edwards was assessed a technical foul for throwing the ball back at 2025 League MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander after a play where Gilgeous-Alexander got fouled. Edwards went back to the locker room after turning his ankle on a landing but was able to return to the floor midway through the second quarter.

Following the loss, Edwards lamented during his postgame news conference that he only took “13 f—ing shots” in the defeat, which led to the $50,000 fine from the NBA.

“I definitely got to shoot more. I took 13 f–– shots,” Edwards said postgame. “But I’ll say probably just get off the ball a little more. Play without the ball. I think that would be the answer, because playing on the ball, they’re just going to double and sit in the gaps all day. So I’ve got to go watch some film and take it apart and figure it out.”

The fine bumped Edwards’ total discipline bill by the league to a total of $430,000 so far for the season.

This comes after star forward Jalen Williams was fined $25,000 for wearing a shirt that said, “F— art, let’s dance,” to his postgame press conference after the Thunder’s series win over the Nuggets on Sunday.

The Thunder lead the best-of-seven series 1-0, with Game 2 on Thursday.
