Kristaps Porziņģis is re-signing with the Golden State Warriors on a two-year deal.
The Warriors addressed one of their biggest offseason priorities by re-signing veteran center Porziņģis to a two-year, $40 million contract. The agreement includes a player option for the second year, giving both sides flexibility while keeping one of the NBA’s most unique frontcourts in the Bay Area.
Porziņģis was acquired by Golden State at the February trade deadline in a blockbuster deal that sent Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks. Injuries and health issues limited his time with the Warriors, but the team saw enough to bring him back after a brief stint.
In 15 regular-season games with Golden State, Porziņģis averaged 16 points, 5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1 block, while stretching defenses with his outside shooting—his best attribute. He also provides important rim protection on defense. At 7-foot-3, Porziņģis gives the Warriors a dimension that few teams possess.
Porziņģis is also considered a great fit alongside Stephen Curry. His ability to shoot beyond the arc gives Curry more space to operate. With LeBron James moving on from the Los Angeles Lakers and the team targeting Anthony Davis, bringing back Porziņģis also impacts the Warriors’ salary cap situation.
If he can stay healthy, Porziņģis gives the Warriors another elite weapon as they try to return to playoff contention. By agreeing to the new contract before free agency opened, both Porziņģis and the organization showed confidence that their partnership could continue.
