In the first season for Bruce Arians as head coach in Tampa, the Buccaneers did not play all too well. Jameis Winston became the first quarterback to throw 30 touchdowns, as well as 30 interceptions, their running game was atrocious, and although they allowed the fewest rushing yards per game in the entire NFL on defense, they also allowed the third most passing yards per game. All this led to the Buccaneers finishing 7-9, third in the NFC South, missing the playoffs once again for the 12th straight season. That looks like it will change as in case you have not already heard, the Buccaneers signed Tom Brady during the offseason, moving on from Winston. Brady will have some really good options to throw to with guys like Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, as well as Rob Grokowski who is coming out of retirement. There is also a rumor of the team signing Antonio Brown to join this receiving core as well. The running game on paper still looks lackluster with Ronald Jones and a rookie Ke’Shawn Vaughn, but on the bright side, the offensive line still looks to be really solid following the addition of Tristan Wirfs in the draft. On defense, they have 2019 league sack leader with Shaquil Barrett. He is paired with vets like Jason Pierre-Paul, Lavonte David, Ndamukong Suh and William Gholston. They also have some nice pieces on their front seven with Vita Vea and Devin White. The issue is still going to be however is the secondary. There is a lot of inexperience, as Andrew Adams and Ryan Evans have the longest NFL tenures, both entering their fifth season. There will be a lot of growing pains for the defense, and it will be on Arians, Brady and the rest of the offense to make up for that because teams will most likely be able to throw the ball all over this defense once again.

Looking at the Bucs’ schedule, being that they finished third place in their division a year ago, they get a break in that sense slightly, but they will still be forced to play some of the top teams in the entire NFL. The Buccaneers have a Week 13 bye, which is a good thing as they will be fresher than some other teams entering the final four weeks of the season. It can, however, be viewed as a bad thing as well, as it puts an extra emphasis on the games in the heart of their season when the team might not be its healthiest. Opening the 2020 season with a trip to New Orleans was one of the first things that caught my attention when the schedule was released. Everyone will have their eyes glued to their screens to see Brady and Drew Brees face-off in a game that could mean a lot for the NFC playoff picture, despite it being in Week 1. Throughout the course of the season, Tampa Bay is tied with seven other teams for the most primetime games in 2020 with five. What is interesting for the Bucs, is that they play four of their primetime games in a five week stretch from Week 5 at Chicago to Week 9 vs. New Orleans. Those games are against Chicago, Las Vegas, New York (Giants), and New Orleans, so it is not like those are really tough games outside of the Saints, so it is very possible that Tampa can take care of business. Week 12 against Kansas City raised a lot of eyebrows as Patrick Mahomes and Brady have had some memorable games over the last few matchups, and being that this game will be played in Tampa should make it even more interesting. Games against Denver, Green Bay, Minnesota and Atlanta, also catch my attention as all of those teams have eyes toward the playoffs and expect to be in the field in 2020, along with Tampa, so that could add to the intensity of those games.

With the addition of Brady, the Buccaneers became one of the must watch teams in 2020 for NFL fans across the country, regardless of whether or not they particularly like Brady. With that, here are the five games I think you will want to attend in 2020:

  • Week 3: Buccaneers at Broncos
  • Week 6: Packers at Buccaneers
  • Week 9: Saints at Buccaneers
  • Week 12: Chiefs at Buccaneers
  • Week 17: Falcons at Buccaneers

Starting with Week 3 against the Broncos, on the road. This will be a major offensive showcase, specifically in the passing game. The Buccaneers with all their options in the passing game, will go up against Drew Lock, Cortland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and Noah Fant, among others in the passing game, and the Broncos look to be the up and coming team in the AFC after a few not so great years following winning Super Bowl 50. Given how poorly the Buccaneers’ pass defense projects to be, this will be an interesting test early on in the year. Week 6 against Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers is still a top-10 NFL quarterback in my opinion. In two career matchups against Rodgers where both are the starter, the two have split their meetings, with Brady winning their most recent game against Rodgers back in 2018. Week 9 against New Orleans, although this game is not as anticipated as their Week 1 matchup, but the reason why I have this game as a must watch and not Week 1, is because given this crazy offseason, both of these squads might come out a little rusty, so by Week 9, hopefully, these teams will be in better game shape. Week 12 against Kansas City, as mentioned earlier Mahomes vs. Brady is always exciting, and with the offensive firepower on both of these teams, this year’s matchup could be once again a game where you’ll not want to leave your couch. This also could be a possible Super Bowl preview, who knows. Finally Week 17 against Atlanta. Both of these teams have high caliber offenses on paper, and being that this is the final game of the season, this will have an immense impact on the NFC playoff picture, whether it be both of these teams make it or one of these teams can play the spoiler to the other. Of all of the Week 17 games this season, this might have the biggest impact on the playoffs.
