Devils To Name Lindy Ruff As Their New Head Coach

After missing out on the NHL’s payoffs for the 2020 season, the New Jersey Devils have announced that they will be making a change at the head coaching position.

Lindy Ruff, 60, will take over for John Hynes, who had been the head man since the 2015-2016 season. Hynes was fired midway through this last season and was replaced by Alain Nasreddine as the interim head coach.

This will be Ruff’s third stint as a head coach in the NHL. He spent 15 seasons as the head man for the Buffalo Sabers from 1997-2003, where he made the Stanley Cup Finals in 1999. After being fired by the Sabers midway through the 2013 season, Ruff was not be unemployed for long as he was brought on by the Dallas Stars for the same position which he held for four seasons. During 19 seasons as a head coach, Ruff has a 736-554-78 record.

Last season the Devils went 28-29-12 and had 68 points, prior to the season’s stoppage. That points mark was good enough for last in the Metropolitan division.
