T.Y. Hilton Signs One-Year Deal, Remains With Indianapolis Colts

T.Y. Hilton has no plans to leave his long-time team.

The veteran wide receiver has signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts, which includes $8 million guaranteed. This coming season will be the 10th in the NFL for the 31-year-old, all of which he has played as a member of the Colts. In a tweet following the announcement of the deal, Hilton stated that “it’s only right I finish what I started.”

Hilton is a four-time Pro Bowler who has been the No. 1 wideout for the Colts for the majority of his career. Known for his dependability as a younger receiver, Hilton missed only two games in his first five seasons. However, age and injuries have affected his quality of play recently, as he has missed nine games over the past three seasons. In addition to that, despite posting 1,000 yards or more in five seasons, including leading the league with 1,448 in 2016, he has not hit the 1,000-yard mark since 2018. His least productive seasons have been the past two years, with 501 yards in 2019 (10 games played) and 762 yards in 2020 (15 games played).

With the presence of second-year receiver Michael Pittman Jr., it is likely that Hilton will no longer be Indy’s WR1. The Colts are also bringing quarterback Carson Wentz into the mix, who they acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. He will be reunited with his former offensive coordinate Frank Reich, who ran the offense during the Eagles’ 2017 Super Bowl championship season. It will be interesting to see how Hilton fits in to the offense under this new leadership at the quarterback position.
