Suspect Arrested In Slaying of 49ers’ Backup QB C.J. Beathard’s Brother

Police arrested a man in connection with a Saturday incident at a Nashville bar that left two men dead, including the brother of backup 49ers’ quarterback, C.J. Beathard. Another man was wounded.

The suspect arrested on Wednesday has been identified as 23-year-old, Michael Mosley. He was found in a vacant house in Cheatham County and was charged with two counts of criminal homicide and one count of attempted criminal homicide, according to the Nashville Metro Police. The search for Mosley lasted a day.

On Wedneday, a judicial commissioner decided Mosley will be held without bond for the two criminal homicide charges and announced a $5 million bond for the attempted criminal homicide charge.

The attack by Mosley reportedly stemmed from an “unwanted advancement” attempt by a man toward a woman at the bar, according to a statement by Nashville police. The woman was said to be friends of the men who were stabbed in the incident.

The two men who died from the stabbing were 22-year-old, Clayton Beathard, and 21-year-old Paul Trapeni III.  The third man attacked was a 21-year-old University of Tennessee student who suffered injuries to his arm and eye. According to police, the incident occurred at 3 am on Saturday.

Clayton was a quarterback at Long Island University and was majoring in sports management. Trapeni was a student at Rhodes College in Memphis and was set to graduate in 2020, according to his obituary.

Mosley had a prior criminal record before this incident. His past charges include robbery, misdemeanor assault and felony aggravated assault. In his 2015 aggravated assault case, he was charged with stabbing a man and cutting a woman. In the misdemeanor assault case, he reportedly squirted urine out of a shampoo bottle onto a jail employee on Christmas 2015.

Before Mosley was captured there was a reward of $42,500 promised. He is now being held in the Metro jail and there is no confirmation that he has hired an attorney.
