What does averaging 23.4 points and 7.4 assists in a Western Conference Finals victory get you? The inaugural Magic Johnson Western Conference finals MVP award, duh.
Just ask Steph Curry, who tallied those figures en route to Golden State’s 4-1 series victory over the Dallas Mavericks.
The victory sent Golden State back to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2019 to face the winner of the Heat-Celtics series. The drought puts the kibosh on a three-year rebuild that came after Kevin Durant left town for Brooklyn. Their first season without Durant was ended with the Warriors holding the worst record in the NBA during an injury-plagued season.
Despite a glorious resume that features three titles and numerous other accolades, Curry is still chasing that elusive Finals MVP (Andre Iguodala, 2015; Durant, 2017, 2018). He’ll have a chance to stake his claim on it when the NBA Finals open on June 2 on the Warriors’ home court.
