Sirius XM Host Brendan Haywood Says Hornets Locker Room Got ‘Sick And Tired’ Of Dwight Howard

One former Charlotte Hornets player revealed some major news about Dwight Howard and the team’s view of him on Wednesday.

Dwight Howard Was Not Liked In Hornets Locker Room

Sirius XM host Brendan Haywood — who played for the Hornets from 2012 to 2014, when they were still called the Bobcats — said on his program Wednesday that Howard was not remotely well-liked by Charlotte’s players in the locker room during the All-Star’s brief stint with the team this past year.

“The locker room did not like Dwight Howard,” Haywood said on his show. “Guys were just sick and tired of his act.”

Howard, 32, was traded to the Hornets in June 2017 in exchange for Marco Belinelli andMiles Plumlee after two seasons with the Atlanta Hawks. On Wednesday, ESPN reported that the Hornets agreed to trade Howard — an eight-time All-Star — to the Brooklyn Nets — for center Timofey Mozgov, two second-round draft picks, and cash. One of the two picks will reportedly be a 2021 second-round pick, and the other will be a selection from this year’s NBA draft, which will be held Thursday night in Brooklyn.

Howard is still owed $23.8 million as part of his contract with the Hornets, which expires after next season.

According to Yahoo Sports, Haywood continues to have ties with Kemba Walker and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, both of whom played for Charlotte at the same time as him. Haywood also played for North Carolina in college, so he could also have heard stories from other Hornets players who are former Tar Heels, like Marvin Williams and Marcus Paige.

The Nets will now be Howard’s fourth team in four years, after a stint with the Houston Rockets from 2013-2016. Before that, Howard played for the Los Angeles Lakers and it became well-known that he and Kobe Bryant did not get along smoothly at that time.

This past season with the Hornets, Howard averaged 16.6 points and 12.5 rebounds.

Mozgov has two years remaining on his current deal with the Nets.
