Serena Williams Reaches Quarterfinal In U.S. Open After Victory Over Maria Sakkari
Before this weekend’s slate of games took place, the U.S. Open had already been the strangest event in recent memory and probably in the history of the tournament. On courts in front of no fans and only a few coaches and umpires, the tournament saw several stunning upsets with legends like Venis Williams being eliminated in the first round. And up and comers like Coco Gauf being ousted far earlier than expected.
On the other side of the bracket, the women’s quarterfinal is set after legend Serena Willaims completed a comeback victory against Maria Sakkari 6-3 6-7 (6) 6-3. This match also produced an interesting piece of history outside of the scope of COVID – it’s the first time three moms have reached the quarterfinal.
