David Montgomery has been traded from the Detroit Lions to the Houston Texans.

The Lions will acquire the Texans’ fifth-round draft pick. NBC Sports reported that Montgomery wanted to leave the Lions shortly before the trade.

Montgomery was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He played four seasons with the Bears and rushed for 3,609 yards.

Montgomery originally signed a three-year, $18 million contract with the Lions in the 2023 offseason. Just a month later, the Lions drafted Jahmyr Gibbs with the No. 12 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The two running backs have developed good chemistry. They’ve earned the nicknames of Sonic and Knuckles, with Gibbs representing the speed of Sonic the Hedgehog and Montgomery representing the power of Knuckles the Echidna. However, reports from the draft said that Montgomery wasn’t told about the Lions’ plans to draft a running back.

The Texans ranked No. 21 in the run game last season. A big reason for this was their No. 26-ranked offensive line, according to For The Numbers.

However, their leading rusher was Woody Marks, a rookie who had just 703 yards. Veteran Nick Chubb also played in 15 games and had 506 yards.

Having Montgomery at running back will make things easier for the Texans’ run game. Although offensive coordinator Nick Caley generally prefers shifty running backs over power backs like Montgomery, his system is versatile and can adapt to players’ needs.

Meanwhile, the Lions can use the draft pick and cap space to address their weaknesses. The Lions look to improve their wide receiver depth, offensive line, and pass-rushing.

The NFL offseason officially begins on March 11. The legal tampering period begins on March 9, allowing teams to negotiate contracts without officially signing players.

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams isn’t taking any guff about his nails.

“You know, people feel a certain way about it in a masculine sport, and I give no f—-s, to be honest with you. I couldn’t care less,” Williams told The Rush podcast hosted by Maxx Crosby.

Williams also revealed the story behind his painted nails. His interest in nail art started as a kid. His mom was a nail technician. However, he said he first painted his nails on a date with an ex-girlfriend.

Williams has used his nail polish to display a variety of messages. One time in college, he painted “F Texas” on his nails. In the NFL, he’s used his nail polish to show support for suicide awareness and breast cancer research.

Williams was the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. His pre-draft grades rated him as the most productive quarterback in the draft based on college production. He also ranked second in NFL scouting combine performance.

However, some wondered if he could handle the rigors of an NFL season. Some saw his nail polish as a sign of weakness. Williams sees them as a strength, a way to send a message to the opposing team and outside causes.

Williams threw 20 touchdowns in his rookie season. He had one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL, which led to him being sacked 68 times, which led the NFL. The Bears improved their offense, while Williams also improved his game. He threw 27 touchdowns in 2025. Beyond that, he also had six fourth-quarter comebacks to lead the league.

The Chicago Bears received some good news regarding their proposed move to Indiana.

Indiana Senate Bill 27, which provides a state-owned stadium for the Bears to play in, has strong support from the state Legislature and Indiana Gov. Mike Braun. The bill passed 24-0 in the state House Ways and Means Committee. The Bears proposed their move to Indiana after Illinois Governor JB Pritzker wasn’t supportive of using tax dollars for a new stadium.

The Bears currently play in Soldier Field. The stadium first opened in 1924. It’s been the home of the Bears since 1971. Despite renovations in 2002, the Bears still feel the stadium is outdated and are looking for a change.

The new proposed stadium would be in Hammond, Indiana. Despite moving out of state, Hammond is only a 40-minute drive from Chicago. The team plans to keep its name as the Chicago Bears. This is similar to how the New York Giants and New York Jets play in New Jersey but call themselves New York.

The Bears are one of the NFL’s oldest franchises. They played their first season in the NFL in 1922. They won Super Bowl XX. The 1985 Bears are considered one of the greatest teams in NFL history due to their elite defense. The 1985 Bears have seven Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees, including their head coach, Mike Ditka.

2025 was the Bears’ best season in a long time. They finished with an 11-6 record and won their first playoff game since 2010. They lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round, but still showed strong potential.

Indiana Senate Bill 27 will be voted on by the state legislature on Feb. 27. From there it will reach the desk of Gov. Braun, who is expected to sign it.

The Chicago Bears had their backs to the wall and rose to the occasion, winning a wild-card thriller against the Packers.

On January 10, the Bears took on their division rivals, the Packers, in the wild-card game. The Bears had been one of this season’s most pleasant surprises, going from missing the playoffs to a No. 2 seed. Meanwhile, the Packers had gotten off to a great start but fell off after Micah Parsons suffered a season-ending injury.

The Bears started off the game with a Cairo Santos 27-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead. The Packers quickly responded with a touchdown pass from Jordan Love to Christian Watson.

The second quarter was all Packers. Love had two touchdown passes, one to Jayden Reed and the other to Romeo Doubs. At halftime, the Packers led this game 21-3.

Santos had a field goal in the third quarter to help chip away at the deficit. Despite this, the Bears still faced a 21-6 deficit with just one quarter remaining.

The Bears scored twice early in the fourth quarter, the first being another Santos field goal and a 6-yard touchdown rush from D’Andre Swift. However, when the Packers responded with a touchdown pass to Matthew Golden, all hope seemed lost. The Packers held a 27-16 lead with just 6:36 left.

The Bears marched down the field and got an Olamide Zaccheaus touchdown. QB Caleb Williams converted a two-point conversion to Colston Loveland to get the game to within three. The Packers had a chance to extend their lead, but their kicker missed. The Bears got the eventual game-winning touchdown from D.J. Moore to make the game 31-27. The Bears scored 25 points in the fourth quarter to erase the deficit.

On May 3, 2008, former NFL running back Cedric Benson was arrested and charged with boating while intoxicated (BWI) and resisting arrest.

Benson’s boat was stopped during a routine safety inspection. Authorities saw signs of intoxication, and Benson reportedly refused to put on a life jacket, and he refused to get off the boat to take a sobriety test.

Benson was forced to be removed from the boat, and officers had to use pepper spray during the incident. He was taken into custody and released on a $14,500 bond.

A grand jury didn’t indict Benson on his charges due to insufficient evidence.

Benson attended the University of Texas, where he was a standout running back. He won the Doak Walker Award in 2004, which is given to the best running back in the nation.

He entered the 2005 NFL Draft and was selected No. 4 by the Chicago Bears. Benson struggled with injuries in Chicago, and he eventually signed with the Cincinnati Bengals during the 2008 season.

Benson had a career resurgence with Cincinnati, where he was named to a Pro Bowl, All-Pro team, and he won a rushing title.

He signed with the Green Bay Packers after the 2011 season, but suffered a Lisfranc injury that ended his season, and he never played another snap in the NFL.

On August 17, 2019, Benson passed away in a motorcycle accident at 36 years old.

Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter will miss the team’s Monday night clash against the Los Angeles Chargers after undergoing a procedure on both shoulders, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The 24-year-old underwent the procedure on Monday, and his status will be evaluated week to week. ESPN’s sources said Carter wants to be near full health by the time the Eagles start postseason play.

It’s not the first shoulder issue Carter faced this year. In the summer, he missed the first three practice sessions of preseason camp due to a shoulder injury.

“He does have a shoulder issue,” Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said on Wednesday, discussing the team’s previous loss against the Chicago Bears. “He’s been playing with it. Late in the game, he had a great play with it, but yeah, it’s definitely something there.”

This year, Carter tallied over 30 tackles in 11 games played. He is currently playing his third year in Philadelphia after being drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Eagles remain first in the NFC East division, but their form has dipped in recent weeks. Nick Sirianni’s side is enduring a two-game losing streak and continues to struggle offensively, tallying 16 points or less in three of the last four games.

Two of Philadelphia’s remaining five matches are against division rivals, the Washington Commanders. In addition, the Eagles will also face two AFC contenders: the Buffalo Bills and the Chargers.

Despite entering the 2025 season as one of the favorites to compete in the NFC, the Detroit Lions currently sit on the wrong side of the playoff line with five games remaining.

The team lost for the third time in November, dropping a home game to division rivals, the Green Bay Packers, 31-24.

The loss puts the Lions third in the NFC North, two games behind the Chicago Bears. After the weekend, Detroit sits below the playoff line with a 7-5 record. On Monday, ESPN gave the Lions a 44% chance of making the postseason.

Head coach Dan Campbell is aware of the team’s recent slump but remains determined to make a final push into the playoffs.

“We dug ourselves a little bit of a hole,” he said after Thursday’s loss. “That’s the bottom line. We are in a little bit of a hole. But that’s just what it is. There’s nothing more than that. So all we got to do is worry about cleaning up this and then getting to the next game and finding a way to win the next one in front of us.”

Under Campbell, the Lions won back-to-back NFC North titles in 2023 and 2024. Last season, the team finished with its best regular-season record (15-2) in franchise history but lost in the Divisional round against the Washington Commanders.

The Lions’ next game is a home clash with the hot Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night.

The New York Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll on Monday after a 2-8 start to the season.

The 50-year-old finishes his tenure at MetLife Stadium with a 20-40-1 record. Thirty-three of those 40 losses came within the previous two and a half seasons.

Daboll was hired in 2022 and led the Giants to the NFC Divisional round in his first season, only losing to the eventual Super Bowl finalists, the Philadelphia Eagles.

The following two seasons, however, got progressively worse for Daboll’s side. The Giants missed the playoffs twice, finishing with a 6-11 record in 2023 and a 3-14 record in 2024.

In 2025, New York has found ways to lose in spectacularly bizarre fashion. Twice this season, the Giants have lost a game while leading by double-digit points with under four minutes remaining. In Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys, Daboll’s men lost 40-37 despite scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 25 seconds to go.

In October, the Giants faced the Denver Broncos. Despite the team leading 26-8 with six minutes remaining, the Broncos completed a monumental comeback on a last-second field goal, becoming the second team in NFL history to score 30 points or more after recording none through three quarters.

The final blow to Daboll came last Sunday against the Chicago Bears, when the team suffered another late collapse in the fourth quarter, losing its fourth straight game.

Following Daboll’s dismissal, assistant coach and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will serve as the interim head coach. His first game – and the Giants’ first in the post-Daboll era – will be a home match against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

The Denver Broncos broke several records after making a monumental comeback against the New York Giants on Sunday, winning 33-32 after trailing by 19 in the fourth quarter.

Denver made history for its late comeback, which saw them tally 33 points in the final 15 minutes. The Broncos and 1981 Atlanta Falcons become the only two teams in NFL history to score 30 or more points after posting zero in the first three quarters.

But the comeback looked off the cards when the Giants extended their lead to 26-8 after tight end Theo Johnson scored from a deflected pass. However, Sean Payton‘s men stormed all the way back after scoring 22 points in less than four minutes to take a 30-26 lead.

The Giants responded through a Jaxson Dart touchdown with 37 seconds remaining, but a missed extra point opened the door for the Broncos to drive 56 yards with no timeouts. It allowed placekicker Wil Lutz to nail a 39-yard field goal, completing the turnaround for the hosts.

With 33 points in the final 15 minutes, only the Detroit Lions scored more (34) in the fourth quarter of a game, dating back to a 34-14 win against the Chicago Bears. The win also makes the Broncos the second team since 2000 to win after trailing by 18 or more points with six minutes remaining.

In the heart of the offense, Broncos quarterback Bo Nix threw for 279 yards while tallying two passing and rushing touchdowns. Nix becomes the first player in NFL history to score two rushing and passing touchdowns in any quarter.

“I feel bad for the people who left early,” the quarterback said to CBS after the game. “A complete team effort in the fourth quarter. It was really bad there for a point. The morale was low on the sideline, but the guys never quit.”

The Broncos improve to 5-2 on the season and win their fourth straight game. Denver will next host the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High.

“I can’t believe it – I haven’t really had one like that,” Nix said. “That’s a first for me, but I love our team.”

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff couldn’t believe the Chicago Bears let running back David Montgomery join the team back in 2023, he recalled earlier this week.

Since signing a three-year, $18 million contract with Detroit in early 2023 as an unrestricted free agent from the Bears, the running back has tallied 2,023 rushing yards and 28 rushing touchdowns across three seasons. Last Sunday, Montgomery ran for 151 yards and scored two touchdowns in the team’s 38-30 road victory against the Baltimore Ravens.

But after signing with the team, Goff was left shocked to see that the Bears had allowed the former Iowa State running back to join a division rival.

“I saw D-Mo from across the field for years in Chicago, and I was shocked when they let him walk,” he said on Wednesday. “When we landed him, I was like, ‘Holy smokes, we just got one of the best backs in the league.”

The Lions added to their depth in the running back position shortly afterwards, after signing Jahmyr Gibbs in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft. Since then, the 23-year-old has rushed 2,537 yards and scored 29 rushing touchdowns, helping the Lions win back-to-back NFC North division titles and one NFC Championship appearance.

“You draft Gibbs, and it’s like, ‘Wow, we have two of the best backs in the league,'” Goff said. “They feed off each other; they’re both incredibly hard-working and good players. The energy they feed off each other, one of them runs well, and the other one wants to run well too. They’re as good as it gets.”

After a setback in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers, the Lions bounced back by putting up 90 points across two wins against the Bears and Ravens. Dan Campbell‘s side looks to make it three straight wins as the Cleveland Browns visit Ford Field on Sunday afternoon.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - NOVEMBER 10: Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay reacts to applause during Dwight Freeney

Former owner of the Indianapolis Colts, Jim Irsay, suffered a series of drug relapses before his death last May, a new report from The Washington Post said.

Irsay, the longtime owner of the Colts, died at the age of 65 on May 21 in Los Angeles.

The report gathered information from five sources that knew about Irsay’s alleged relapses. All five sources said they saw Irsay allegedly take opioid pills, while four said they saw the owner allegedly take injections of ketamine.

According to the report, Irsay overdosed three times in the five years leading to his death. The first time happened in February 2020 in Turks and Caicos, where the report says he was taken in an air ambulance off the island.

The second time came in December 2023, the report says. Irsay suffered another overdose less than two weeks later, the report added.

Irsay’s daughters and Colts co-owners Casey Foyt, Kalen Jackson and Carlie Irsay-Gordon, declined an interview request from The Post, but wrote a statement regarding their father’s health.

“Our Dad was open about his battles with addiction and mental health,” they wrote. “He never claimed to be perfect. The media is not the place to address inquiries about information, which is disputed, lacks essential context, or involves private medical matters.”

Irsay became the youngest team owner in the NFL in 1997, taking over the Colts from his father, Robert Irsay, who passed away that same year. Before then, he was the vice president and general manager of the team since 1984, where he remained until becoming owner.

Under Irsay, the Colts won Super XLI in 2007 by defeating the Chicago Bears.

2025 was not a good season for the New York Giants. Nothing this team tried seemed to work, and they ended up going 3-14 and landing the third overall pick in the draft. New York cut their starting quarterback, Daniel Jones, in week 12, knowing the team wasn’t competing for the playoffs. The Giants decided to stick with their head coach, Brian Daboll, after two disappointing seasons, trying to keep some stability with the team.

The Giants’ offseason would bring significant changes to the struggling franchise, starting with the addition of new talent at the quarterback position, including Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. Both were brought in to compete for the starting job, but it was announced that Wilson would be the week one starter. New York also added several pieces to their secondary, which only had five interceptions last season, ranking second-to-last in the NFL. They signed safety Jevon Holland and cornerback Paulson Adebo, who both have been starters for the majority of their careers.

The Giants also signed other key additions like defensive lineman Roy Robert-Harris, defensive end Chauncey Golston, wide receiver Zach Pascal and offensive lineman James Hudson III. The Giants also let quarterback Drew Lock, cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, defensive end Azeez Ojulari and guard Wyatt Davis all walk this offseason.

The Giants had one of the best drafts in the NFL, selecting edge rusher Abdul Carter with the third overall pick out of Penn State. Carter was arguably the most “pro-ready” out of any of the prospects in the draft, falling to number three overall. The Giants also made a considerable move, trading back into the first round to select quarterback Jaxson Dart out of Ole Miss with the 25th overall pick. Dart will have the opportunity to compete with the newly signed quarterbacks for the starting position in the regular season. The Giants also made other key selections like defensive tackle Darius Alexander, running back Cam Skattebo and offensive lineman Marcus Mbow.

New York will have a challenging 2025 season, having the most demanding schedule in the NFL, according to Fox Sports. The team will play nine playoff teams from last season, including the Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, twice. Some of the more winnable games for the Giants will come against the Cowboys, the Saints in week five, the Bears in week 10 and the Patriots in week 13. With a challenging schedule and numerous new additions to the team, New York’s pass rush must dominate as it did last season to make a return to the playoffs in 2025.

The Packers entered 2024 with hopes of winning the division and making a deep playoff run after winning as a seven seed in 2023, but failed to go 11-6 and lost to the Eagles in the first round of the playoffs. The Packers still had a great season, thanks in part to significant contributions from newly signed free agents Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney. The Packers’ season, however, was highlighted by quarterback Jordan Love’s nagging injuries all season from a sprained MCL, a groin injury and an elbow injury suffered in week 18.

>GET GREEN BAY PACKERS TICKETS NOW!

The Packers knew they would have to reload in the 2025 offseason, giving Love and the Packers more playmakers along the team. They signed big free agents like cornerback Nate Hobbs from the Raiders and guard Aaron Banks from the 49ers. They also signed other names, like wide receiver Mecole Hardman and Isiah Simmons. The biggest offseason news surrounded the team’s star cornerback Jaire Alexander, who had missed most of last season with a knee injury. Alexander had now missed 20 games in the last two seasons due to injury and was eventually cut by the Packers. The Packers also lost center Josh Meyers, cornerback Erik Stokes, defensive tackle T.J. Slaton and running back A.J. Dillon. As the season started, they hit gold, signing Cowboy Micah Parsons.

The Packers hosted the 2025 NFL draft in Green Bay for the first time in Packers history and made the selection of the first round, selecting wide receiver Matthew Golden out of Texas with the 23rd overall pick. This was the first time the Packers had picked a wide receiver in the first round since 2002. The Packers also selected tackle Anthony Belton in the second round, wide receiver Savion Williams in the third round and edge rusher Barryn Sorrell in the fourth.

The Packers have the sixth-hardest schedule in the NFL, according to Fox Sports, and open their season vs the Lions at home in a divisional matchup that will have huge playoff implications. The Packers will need to perform better than going 1-5 in divisional games if they hope to compete in a very competitive NFC North. The Packers’ key matchups are week two vs the Commanders, week 10 vs. the Eagles, week 13 vs the Lions on Thanksgiving and the biggest game of the year vs the Steelers in week eight.

The Cowboys had a roller coaster season. The last season kicked off hot, with a dominant performance from Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb in a win over the Browns. In week four, superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons got injured and missed most of the season. Later in the season, Dallas got smacked by the Lions 47-9 at home. Finally, Prescott got wounded in week nine, which caused him to miss the rest of the season. The Cowboys would end up finishing 7-10 after winning their division in 2023 before the playoff collapse.

In 2024, the Cowboys’ defense struggled to stop the run, while the offensive line continued to decline. These were areas they knew they needed to address in the offseason. The Cowboys brought in a ton of new players, including guard Robert Jones, middle linebackers Jack Sanborn and Kenneth Murray. They also signed defensive lineman Solomon Thomas, wide receiver Paris Campbell, running backs Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders. Dallas also made a considerable move, not re-signing former head coach Mike McCarthy and instead promoting their offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer.

>GET DEALS ON DALLAS COWBOYS TICKETS NOW!

With all of the Cowboys’ additions, they also lost many key players, like offensive lineman Zack Martin, who retired after having a Hall of Fame career with the Cowboys. They also lost defensive lineman DeMarcus Lawrence, running back Rico Dowdle, wide receiver Brandin Cooks and cornerback Jourdan Lewis. The team lost significant pieces but made one final move to bring some more juice to the offense, trading for wide receiver George Pickens from the Steelers. Pairing Pickens with Lamb creates one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL for the Cowboys next season, giving their fans something to look forward to.

The Cowboys will have their work cut out for them, having the fifth-hardest schedule in the NFL according to Fox Sports. The Cowboys get to play in the first game of the NFL regular season vs the defending Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, in a huge divisional matchup. The Cowboys also play seven other playoff teams from last season, including playing the Eagles and Commanders twice. Prescott will have to return to MVP-caliber play if the Cowboys want to return to the playoffs in 2025.

The New Orleans Saints went 5-12 in the 2024 season, a year marked by numerous injuries. Starting quarterback Derek Carr suffered multiple injuries, missing seven games during the season. The Saints struggled for consistency on both offense and defense, boasting one of the worst rosters in the NFL. The nail in the coffin was when head coach Dennis Allen was fired in week nine of the season after losing seven games in a row. The season was terrible, and the Saints knew they would need to head in a new direction after yet another losing season.

The Saints started their offseason by hiring new head coach Kellen Moore, who had just won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles as their offensive coordinator. Moore played as a quarterback in college at Boise State University before playing in the NFL for the Cowboys and Lions, before transitioning to coaching. The other huge news of the offseason for the Saints was Carr’s retirement. Carr had only played two seasons with the Saints, but surprisingly retired at only the age of 34.

>GET DEALS ON NEW ORLEANS SAINTS TICKETS NOW!

New Orleans made lots of other signings in the offseason, like safety Justin Reid, wide receiver Brandin Cooks, center Will Clapp, cornerback Issac Yiadom and safety Julian Blackmon. The Saints also had some losses this offseason, including safety Tyrann Mathieu and tackle Ryan Ramczyk, who both retired. The Saints also lost cornerback Paulson Adebo, safety Will Harris, running back Jamal Williams and guard Lucas Patrick.

The Saints held the ninth overall pick in the NFL draft and selected offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. out of Texas to replace Ramczyk, who retired. The Saints also brought in the quarterback of the future, Tyler Shough, out of Louisville with the 40th overall pick. Shough will get an immediate chance to start after Carr’s retirement. The Saints also made some other notable draft additions like defensive tackle Vernon Broughton, safety Jonas Sanker and linebacker Danny Stutsman.

The Saints head into the 2025 season with numerous challenges under a new head coach and quarterback. They have the 31st most challenging schedule in the NFL, according to Fox Sports, giving them a good chance to gain some momentum during the year. In week one, the Saints host the Cardinals before playing their first divisional game in week eight vs the Buccaneers. The most anticipated games of the season will be vs the Buccaneers, 49ers, Bills, Rams and Seahawks.

The Chicago Bears had one of the most disappointing seasons in the entire NFL, going 5-12, losing 10 of their last 11 games of the regular season. The Bears had high hopes after drafting Caleb Williams with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, but the team would struggle with an inconsistent offensive line and a rough coaching staff. The Bears would fire their head coach, Matt Eberflus, after a disappointing loss to the Lions in week 13. The Bears entered 2025 needing to reload and rebuild around their franchise quarterback, Williams.

The first move of the offseason was the hiring of new head coach Ben Johnson, who had previously been the offensive coordinator for the Lions. The Lions had the most dominant offense last season under Johnson, thanks to his play-calling. Chicago would also trade for guard Joe Thuney from the Chiefs, who was an All-Pro last season. They also traded for guard Jonah Jackson from the Rams, adding another piece to the offensive line. The final move on the offensive line was signing center Drew Dalman from the Falcons.

The Bears didn’t stop there this offseason; they also signed defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo, defensive lineman Grady Jarrett, running back Travis Homer and wide receivers Devin Duverney and Olamide Zaccheaus. Chicago also hired Dennis Allen as their defensive coordinator. Allen was previously the Saints’ head coach before getting fired in 2024, but he brings a lot of defensive experience to an already above-average defense.

Chicago gave Williams two new weapons in the first two rounds of the NFL draft, selecting tight end Colston Loveland out of Michigan and wide receiver Luther Burden III out of Missouri. Both will add even more depth to Johnson’s offense, giving him more pieces to help develop Williams’ talent. The Bears also selected offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo and defensive tackle Shemar Turner in the second and third rounds.

The Bears will have to prove they can finally compete in the NFC after having another successful offseason. Chicago has the second-most-demanding schedule in the NFL and plays in one of the toughest divisions in football: the NFC North. The Bears open the season vs the Vikings at home in a huge divisional matchup. The Bears play several teams who made the playoffs last season, including the Vikings, Lions, Commanders, Ravens, Steelers, Eagles and the Packers. Chicago will have to put together the pieces offensively if it wants to compete against one of the most demanding schedules in the NFL.

A heartwarming moment occurred after Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson gifted a young fan his SportsCenter Top 10 chain following Monday Night Football’s win against the Chicago Bears.

Down 17-6 in the fourth quarter, the Vikings scored 21 unanswered points to take home a 27-24 opening week win at Solider Field.

Jefferson, who scored to begin Minnesota’s second-half comeback, approached the young fan in the front row following the game. The 26-year-old proceeded to put his SportCenter Top 10 chain around the fan’s neck and gifted him the game ball.

The former LSU receiver recorded 44 yards against the Bears along with the touchdown. He is currently entering his sixth season in the NFL.

The Vikings are looking to win back-to-back games to start the season as they host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Night Football.

The Detroit Lions were one of the most dominant teams, if not the most dominant team, in the 2024 season, averaging 33.2 points a game, which led the NFL. The Lions would go 15-2 and earn the one seed in the NFC before being upset by the Commanders in the divisional round, losing 45-31. The Lions still had a fantastic season, winning the most games in a season in franchise history with 15. Quarterback Jared Goff also finished in the top five for MVP voting, and head coach Dan Campbell would finish in the top three in coach of the year voting.

The offseason would start rough for the Lions, losing both of their coordinators, Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, who both accepted head coaching jobs. The team also lost several players to free agency, like cornerback Carlton Davis, guard Kevin Zeitler and defensive end Za’Darius Smith. The most significant loss, however, was center Frank Ragnow, who retired after seven seasons with the Lions. Ragnow was one of the best centers in the league and was a key part of the dominant offensive line play from 2024.

Despite all the losses, the Lions made sure to reload this offseason. They signed players like cornerback D.J. Reed from the Jets, linebacker Derrick Barnes, defensive end Marcus Davenport and cornerbacks Avonte Maddox and Rock Ya-Sin. The Lions also promoted John Morton to their offensive coordinator and Kelvin Sheppard to their defensive coordinator.

Heading into the draft, the Lions held the 28th overall pick, which they selected defensive tackle Tyleik Williams out of Ohio State. They also upgraded their offensive line, which lost several starters this last season, drafting guard Tate Ratledge out of Georgia in the second round. They also selected wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa out of Arkansas, guard Miles Frazier out of LSU and Ahmed Hassanein out of Boise State.

The Lions will face numerous obstacles in their quest to return to the one seed in the NFC, given their third-hardest schedule in the NFL, according to Fox Sports. Detroit opens its season vs its division rival, the Green Bay Packers, in Green Bay, and in week two, it plays the Chicago Bears, another division rival. The Lions have to play several playoff teams from last season, including the Packers, Ravens, Chiefs, Vikings, Commanders, Buccaneers, Eagles, Rams and Steelers. Detroit will have to quickly establish a new identity if it wants to replicate last season’s success.

Rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy overcame a rocky start to deliver a historic debut, propelling the Minnesota Vikings to a 27-24 win over the Chicago Bears on Monday night.

McCarthy threw two touchdowns and ran for another in the fourth quarter, destroying the Bears’ 11-point lead. He made history as the first player in NFL history to score three touchdowns in the fourth quarter in a debut game.

The way the game started, it seemed the Bears’ quarterback, Caleb Williams, would be the star of the game. It looked as though the Bears were on their way to an easy win with a 17-6 lead after the first three quarters.

Except during halftime, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell challenged the rookie quarterback to seize the game.

“I told him at halftime – ‘You are going to bring us back to win this game,’ and the look in his eye was fantastic,” O’Connell said to reporters after the game. “The best thing is just the belief I felt from the team and unit. Ultimately, that doesn’t get done without him in the second half.”

McCarthy connected with wide receiver Justin Jefferson for a 13-yard touchdown, then later found running back Aaron Jones for a 27-yard score. He added a two-point conversion to wide receiver Adam Thielen and capped the Vikings’ comeback with a 14-yard touchdown run with less than three minutes left on the clock.

Teammates praised McCarthy for his confidence under pressure. The 21-year-old credited a pregame ritual to fueling his focus. He marked his face with two black streaks of “war paint.”

“It’s like I’m ready to die on that field, and I’m ready to do anything possible to get that win,” McCarthy told reporters. “It’s not going to look pretty, and it’s not going to look like someone just did my makeup for Halloween; it’s war paint.”

His performance marked the first time since Steven Young in 1985 that a quarterback overcame a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit in his first NFL game. The defense rallied behind McCarthy in the second half of the game, which led to the historic win.

The Vikings return home to host the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 14 with McCarthy carrying the momentum of his NFL debut.

The Minnesota Vikings went 14-3 in 2024 in a great season led by breakout quarterback Sam Darnold, who was signed in free agency. The Vikings made the playoffs but lost to the Rams in the wild-card round, losing 27-9. The team’s season was still a success despite not being initially predicted to make the playoffs. Head coach Kevin O’Connell won coach of the year after winning the most games in a season since 1998.

The Vikings went into the offseason with one huge issue, which was the quarterback position. The Vikings would end up letting Darnold walk in free agency and go with quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who they drafted 10th overall in 2023 but missed all of 2024 with a knee injury. They signed several players like defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, guard Will Fries, defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, wide receiver Rondale Moore, center Ryan Kelly and cornerback Jeff Okudah. The Vikings also traded for running back Jordan Mason from the 49ers to pair up with starting running back Aaron Jones. The Vikings lost several key players, including safety Cam Bynum, tackle Cam Robinson, and linebacker Patrick Jones.

The Vikings went into the draft with the 24th overall pick and selected offensive lineman Donovan Jackson out of Ohio State in the first round. Their draft class also included wide receiver Tai Felton, defensive lineman Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, linebackers Kobe King and tight end Gavin Bartholomew. Minnesota also traded for quarterback Sam Howell from the Seahawks during the draft, giving up the 142nd overall pick and the 172nd pick.

Minnesota will have some early adjustments to make at the beginning of the season with a new quarterback. Still, it will have to figure it out quickly, having the seventh most challenging schedule in the NFL, according to Fox Sports. The Vikings will face the Bears in week one in their first game with McCarthy starting. The Vikings will also play in Ireland and England this season, facing the Steelers and Browns in back-to-back weeks. The Vikings’ key matchups will be against the Lions, Packers, Ravens, and Eagles, all of whom made the playoffs last season.
