The San Francisco 49ers were a force to be reckoned with as the offense and defense were top ten in multiple categories. San Francisco became the first team in NFL history to have four players with over 1,000 yards from scrimmage – Deebo SamuelGeorge KittleChristian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk were the players to achieve this feat. In addition, the defense was third in scoring, surrendering 17.5 points per game.

With this statistical dominance came a 12-5 season topped with a trip to Super Bowl LVIII, in which the 49ers fell short of winning their sixth Lombardi Trophy, losing to the Chiefs 25-22 in overtime. The 49ers set an NFL record for the largest halftime deficit tackled in a title game, coming back from 24-7.

Multiple players wandered in free agency such as Chase YoungJavon Kinlaw and Randy GregoryIsiah Oliver and Erik Armstead were released to free agency. The Niners made numerous signings to counter these losses – notable additions include Issac YiadomChris HubbardLeonard Floyd and Joshua Dobbs. While the pickups weren’t thrilling, the Niners made these moves to improve depth on both sides of the ball. Defensive lineman Maliek Collins arrived in a trade with the Texans, sending San Fran’s seventh-round pick to complete the deal.

Florida’s Ricky Pearsall headlines San Fran’s 2024 class as there’s uncertainty regarding the future of the receiving core as Aiyuk wants a payday. Pearsall’s selection is for the event either Aiyuk or Samuel leaves the team as the former Gator provides great speed and vertical, a perfect replacement in the slot. The 49ers took Renardo Green and Dominick Puni to be eventual starters.

San Fran has one of the NFL’s demanding schedules heading into 2024. Aaron Rodgers comes into Santa Clara in Week One to play the 49ers, his favorite childhood team. Other notable games include the Chiefs, Cowboys, Packers, Bills, Rams, Seahawks and Dolphins.

The pieces are there for another Super Bowl run, however, the schedule isn’t the easiest and the 49ers need to take advantage of winnable games to have a chance at another run.
