San Antonio Spurs Roll Past Miserable Philadelphia Sixers

LaMarcus Aldridge led the San Antonio Spurs with 26 points and nine rebounds in Monday night’s game in Philadelphia against the 76ers, which the Spurs won 119-68. Tony Parker scored 12 points. Usual starters Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Kawhi Leonard all sat out.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich decided to rest both Duncan and Ginobili, and Leonard was ill. Even then, San Antonio held a 44-point lead by the end of the third quarter, and hit the 100-point mark with just 10 minutes remaining in the game. The game marked the 10th consecutive win for the Spurs against the Sixers. The Sixers’ new chairman of basketball operations Jerry Colangelo sat courtside.

‘‘What’s tough is, I know [Brown’s] a hell of a coach,’’ Popovich said of Sixers third-year coach Brett Brown. ‘‘But it’s not a fair battle. Talent for talent, it’s ridiculous.’’ Brown was an assistant to Popovich for many years in San Antonio.

Robert Covington, Nik Stauskas and Nerlens Noel each scored 13 points for the Sixers. Jahlil Okafor, who returned from a two-game suspension due to his involvement in a Boston street fight, scored 10 points. Brown took Okafor off the bench because of an illness.
