Tennessee Titans’ Marcus Mariota Makes Third-Longest Touchdown Run By A QB Since 1960

Tennessee Titans Quarterback Marcus Mariota has not made many runs for his team this season. Part of the reason for this is injuries: he missed two games after he was slowed by an ankle injury in his second game, and then sprained his left knee against the Miami Dolphins.

Sunday, Mariota showed what he is truly capable of when in good condition. On a third-and-seven with about 8:45 left in the game, Mariota sprinted 87 yards to put the Titans up 35-32 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This marked the third-longest run by an NFL QB in 55 years. Terrelle Pryor went 93 yards in 2013 for the Oakland Raiders, and Colin Kaepernick went 90 yards for the San Francisco 49ers in 2014.

The Titans defeated the Jaguars 42-39 in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday. “This is about as healthy as he’s been since Week 2 in Cleveland,” interim Titans coach Mike Mularkey said of Mariota. “It was a great effort by a lot of guys.”

Mariota ended the game with nine carries for 112 yards. He suffered a strip sack by Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith, and Ryan Davis recovered the ball at the Tennessee 9-yard line with 10:14 left in the fourth quarter. “I got to the 50 and was like, ‘I don’t know if I’m going to make it,’” Mariota said. “I was kind of looking around and felt that there was a lot of space.”
