Saints’ Michael Thomas Fakes Phone Call For TD Celebration After Putting Rams To Bed

The 7-1 Saints made a declarative statement over the league’s sole undefeated team, handing the Los Angeles Rams their first loss of the season in an all-time thriller that ended with a 45-35 win for a national audience. Star receiver Michael Thomas made sure to cement that statement, nonchalantly pretending to take a call from a flip phone after an emphatic touchdown to pay homage to former Saints receiver Joe Horn.  

Michael Thomas Takes It To The House, Takes A Call

“Can’t guard Mike” set a franchise record with 211 receiving yards in his huge game that thrust the Saints to the biggest win of the season, with 72 of those yards coming off of that huge touchdown over Marcus Peters.

Horn similarly picked up a flip phone from under the goalpost after a big score in 2003. “That’s something that some kids don’t do,” said Horn on Thomas’ celebration. “To pay homage to an old soul, for him to do it on a national stage took a lot of courage. I’m humbled.”

“I paid a tribute to him, tried to get the crowd going a little bit more, set the tone, have fun out there, giving people a show,” Thomas said. “You gotta have fun. All these guys just catching touchdowns and celebrating with each other, having fun, getting the crowd involved. I felt like I had an opportunity to make it happen, put the game away and make a call.”

Thomas claims to have an idea of where the phone came from. “Umm, I think someone … I think Joe Horn left it,” he said. He was penalized for the premeditated celebration. It’ll cost him at least $13,369.
