Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett has again defied being on time for team activities, already missing a training camp practice back in August because of reportedly oversleeping. On Saturday, he had missed the team charter flight for their game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday and had to fly commercially in order to catch up with the team.
Talking to the Houston Chronicle, his excuse for missing the flight was because he was in traffic, saying, “I just got caught in traffic,” Mallett said, “Got to be on time. It’s not the leadership role that I need to exhibit. So, I have to be better.”
Texans head coach Bill O’Brien has been under question regarding Mallett, asking if he will eventually cut the quarterback especially after these two tardy incidents. “Anything that has to do with Ryan Mallett, I can tell you right now, the way that will be answered by me is everything that we do as far as discipline or anything, personal problems, whatever it might be, is handled internally, in-house,” O’Brien said. “It’s not for public consumption.”
Mallett has seemed to be in a childish tirade since being benched in Week 5 and seeing quarterback Brian Hoyer giving the Texans an offensive resurgence since starting over Mallett. The Texans lost to the Dolphins yesterday in a 44-26 defeat, bringing their 2015 team record to 2-5.
