In a heartwarming story out of the NBA, Russell Westbrook took time out of his busy schedule to give back to the community. Earlier this year, Westbrook won a Kia Sorento for being the All-Star game’s MVP. Instead of keeping it, he decided to donate it to a deserving person in need.
Enter Kerstin Gonzales, a 19-year-old single mother of two, who has worked to put herself through high school and has the potential to go to college. And this is all while working a job to support her family. She has also received some support from Sunbeam Family Services; they provided funds for basic things like diapers and other goods, which helped her keep a roof over her family’s heads.

And Erin Engelke, Sunbeam’s Chief External Relations Officer, thought she was perfect for Westbrook’s donation and the star athlete agreed.
“It’s just all the hard work that she’s done to be able to keep her family together,” Westbrook stated. “When you see somebody working hard towards a goal and finding ways every day to keep everything afloat for her two boys and her family, you can’t do anything but help them out.”
The MVP candidate is averaging 27.7 PPG, 9.7 APG and 7.3 RPG. The Thunder currently have the eighth seed, but have New Orleans and Phoenix nipping at their heels.
