Royals Rally Against Mets To Win The World Series

The Kansas City Royals are World Series champions for the first time in 30 years. Coming into Sunday night up three games to one on the New York Mets and playing in front of a Citi Field crowd, the Royals had the utmost chance of winning it all despite not being in Kansas City.

Through the first eight innings and the Mets winning 2-0, the Royals struggled against Mets ace Matt Harvey, who allowed no runs and struck out nine batters up to this point. After a brief discussion that was shown on national television between Harvey and manager Terry Collins, “The Dark Knight” would come back out to pitch in the ninth to seal the win for the Mets to force Game 6. After settling for a walk, Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer hit a line drive to bring in center fielder Lorenzo Cain to make it 2-1 and seeing Harvey being taken out on the last start of his impressive 2015 season, despite having Tommy John surgery last year. This caused the Royals to take advantage of the situation in Mets closer Jeurys Familia coming in, causing catcher Salvador Perez to do a sacrifice ground out to bring in Hosmer to tie the game after a botched throw to home plate from Mets first baseman Lucas Duda.

After two extra innings, Royals batter Christian Colon, who did not have a single hit during the postseason, gave the Royals a go-ahead run in the top of the 12th inning in bringing in Jarrod Dyson off Mets reliever Addison Reed. Another run would be scored with shortstop Alcides Escobar bringing in Colon and Cain hitting a monstrous three-run double off veteran pitcher Bartolo Colon to put the Royals up 7-2 and a sure victory to win the championship.

This is the first World Series championship the Royals have won since 1985, with their team inception happening in 1969. Catcher Salvador Perez was given the World Series MVP award for the series.
