Roy Jones Jr. Tweets Desire To Fight Anderson Silva On Mayweather Vs McGregor UFC Card

Less than one week after his 65th career victory, boxer Roy Jones Jr. has already expressed interest in participating in another big fight.

The 48-year-old tweeted late Wednesday his desire to fight Anderson Silva as part of a potential Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor UFC card.

According to Jack Bezants of Daily Mail, Jones has long been interested in a bout against Silva and believes there is now a greater chance of that happening than before:

“It was so big when it was talked about back then with me, it would have been the biggest fight of my career by far,” said Jones. “[UFC President] Dana [White] didn’t want to do it, but he’s not the owner now. People make decisions usually try to make money for their decisions. These two fighting [Mayweather and McGregor], like me and Silva fighting in a boxing match, will not diminish the UFC brand.”

Jones boasts a 65-9 record after knocking out Bobby Gunn on Feb. 17.

Silva, 41, is a UFC legend with a career record of 34-8. He recently defeated Derek Brunson at UFC 208 following a five-bout streak that saw him lose four times and take one no-contest.

McGregor and Mayweather have been exchanging verbal jabs in recent weeks, and both have expressed interest in a fight. In December, McGregor even went as far as to obtain a license to box in California.

Though there have been rumors that the fight has already been made official, Mayweather tweeted on Feb. 14 that no deal has yet been made on his behalf.

McGregor called out Mayweather earlier this week for not meeting him in Las Vegas.

“Floyd’s a bitch and he’s petrified,” the Irishman told TMZ. “I flew to Las Vegas and he didn’t show his face. As soon as I touched down in Vegas, he retired twice. He retired twice.”
