Rob Gronkowski To Return To Patriots For 2018 NFL Season, Player Sends Vague Tweet

Rob Gronkowski’s football career isn’t over just yet, despite recent speculation regarding his future.

The funny tight end, amicably know as “Gronk,” will return to play for the New England Patriots in the 2018 season.

Gronkowski, 28, had been rumored to leave the NFL after a string of injuries in recent years to pursue other plans: a move to WWE, or a career as a Hollywood actor. However, the veteran player is reportedly putting those plans on hold, although he is not yet retiring.

“What I am told though is that he took several weeks off to kind of let loose and put football in the back of his mind and really kind of set himself free after football,” said NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. “He did ponder retirement. He did discuss potentially moving to another venue WWE for once — maybe Hollywood.”

Gronkowski spoke to reporters after the Patriots’ Super Bowl LII loss but did not explicitly say he planned to retire. The five-time Pro Bowler has previously made appearances at WWE events, and so people have speculated he could launch a career in wrestling films. He has made cameos in movies like The Clapper and Entourage. 

Gronkowski most recently sustained a concussion in the AFC Championship Game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The tight end posted a vague tweet Wednesday afternoon, shortly after Rapoport announced he would return for the 2018 season. Gronkowski simply wrote “#clueless,” and added an emoji of a person shrugging. It remains unclear whether he was referring to Rapoport’s tweet or something else.

A few hours later, WWE superstar Mojo Rawley replied to Gronk’s tweet saying, “Give me a call. Let’s chat.”

Rawley and Gronkowski are reportedly close friends. Now we know of at least one wrestling star who might not think Gronkowski joining the WWE in some capacity is necessarily a ridiculous idea!
