Ray McDonald’s Restraining Order Alleges Pattern Of Domestic Abuse

It appears Ray McDonald’s playing days are over, but his media attention is far from it. According to the restraining order obtained by the San Jose Mercury News. McDonald allegedly abused his ex-fiancée began in 2014, which escalated until last week’s incident.

Ray McDonald’s Restraining Order

Last week, McDonald was arrested for domestic assault and endangerment of an infant, released by the Chicago Bears and then arrested less than 72 hours later for violating a restraining order. Eventually, the world learned the violation came on a technicality as the former NFL player was only in his ex’s house to let in a private investigator.

“My investigator contacted her and confirmed that she was in Santa Cruz,” McDonald’s attorney, Steve Defilippis told ESPN’s Josina Anderson about the second arrest. “And Ray went over to the apartment to meet the investigator to let him in so that he could get photographs of this allegedly broken door, and lo and behold the cops show up and arrest him.”

But now the San Jose Mercury News has obtained a copy of the restraining order detailing an alleged pattern of domestic abuse, which slowly escalated until last week’s incident. It all started in February 2014 with “verbal abuse and controlling behavior,” but slowly began to worsen with “pushing and shoving” that eventually devolved into “full attacks that happened frequently,” according to the report.

McDonald was arrested yet never formally charged for domestic abuse in August 2014. The restraining order talked about the incident, where his ex-fiancée claimed “[McDonald] choked me, dragged and tried to remove me from the house and put his knee in my stomach when I was 10 weeks pregnant.”

The restraining order also stated that the victim believes McDonald has a drinking problem: “I was ashamed to tell friends and family. I hoped he would change. He changed some, but he began drinking again so I moved out.”

He was also accused of sexual assault during the 2014 season, which resulted in the 49ers releasing him. The case is still open, but he has not been charged and is even planning a defamation lawsuit.

After all of this, the former NFL player claims he is innocent of all charges.
