Despite being arguably the worst player in the National Hockey League, Tanner Glass is a favorite of New York Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault. While the simple fact that the team had better players forced Glass to the minor leagues earlier this season, the enforcer has returned to Broadway, at least for one night.

Due to Emerson Etem‘s illness, Glass played last night against the New York Islanders. And while his return is likely short-lived, he could remain with the team as a spare forward for the foreseeable future thanks to Derek Stepan‘s broken ribs. That would allow Vigneault to return to the situation he had earlier in the season, when he could swap Etem and Glass in and out of the line-up.

Despite their strong record, the Rangers’ haven’t been strong in their own defensive zone. While it remains to be seen how much Glass will play, he surely won’t help any possession metrics.
