Rangers’ Adrian Beltre Hits Third Cycle, First Player To Do So Since 1930

Send ‘er out the park, Big Fella! Texas Rangers third baseman, Adrian Beltre, recently became the first player since Babe Herman in the 1930s to hit three career cycles.

For those who don’t know, a full or natural cycle is when a batter hits a single, double, triple and a home run in a single game.

For the record only three other players have hit three full cycles in the major leagues – and they are all pretty much ancient. Babe Herman had two in 1931 and one in 1933, Bob Meusel got his in 1921, 1922, and 1928 and John Reilly (going waaaay back here) got two in 1883 and one in 1890.

In the Ranger’s 12-9 win over Houston on Monday, Beltre hit a triple in the first out to left field, hit a double in the second, but thought about his triple in the first and hit a single in the third. Then, coming full circle, he hit a home run in the ninth.

While he alone had stellar play, he was only one of five of his teammates to hit multiple RBIs that game.

What makes Beltre’s cycles even more impressive, is the fact that they have all come from the confines of Globe Life Park in Arlington. His first was in 2008 and his next was in 2012. He becomes the first person in the Ranger’s 55 season history to have more than one cycle.
