Raiders Rookie Running Back Josh Jacobs Surprises Father With New House

As a child, Raiders rookie running back, Josh Jacobs, had a tough upbringing  with his four siblings and their father while living in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His father, Marty Jacobs, and his children even lived in a car from time to time. Josh wanted to give him a gift that would cement a new chapter in the Jacobs’ family legacy.

On Tuesday Jacobs tweeted, “Blessed just bought my pops a house.” The Raiders also tweeted a video of Marty’s reaction to his new home that is located in Oklahoma. His father kept smiling while trying to hold back tears. “Why are you trying not to cry… you already crying it already came out,” Jacobs joked with his father.

Jacobs’ transition from being homeless to becoming a star running back in high school followed by his time at Alabama before being drafted was previously documented on an ESPN Sportscenter Featured Piece in April. “Sleeping in the car, I always look back on it,” Jacobs said during the piece. “It’s always going to be something that molded me into who I am. It might have been rough, but, I mean, it’s my life,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs was the 24th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and had an impressive rookie year compiling 1,150 rushing yards with seven touchdowns while averaging 4.8 yards a carry. Those are impressive numbers considering the fact that Jacobs missed three of the last four games with a right shoulder fracture. He was originally sustained the injury but decided to play through the pain. He ranked third in the league in rushing yards per game with 88.5 and is also a top candidate for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
