Appalachian State quarterback Taylor Lamb had two rushing touchdowns in leading the Mountaineers to a 34-10 victory over the Georgia Southern Eagles on Thursday at Allen E. Paulson Stadium in Statesboro, Georgia.
The Eagles jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, taking advantage of a Mountaineers blunder on special teams. Georgia Southern linebacker Ukeme Eligwe picked up a botched snap on a Mountaineers’ field-goal atempt and raced 90 yards down the sideline for a touchdown at the end of the first quarter.
Nevertheless, that would be Georgia Southern’s last score. The Eagles lost for the fourth time in the last five games.
Appalachian State (6-2, 4-0) won its fifth straight game.

Lamb scored on runs of 30 and 14 yards and finished with 94 yards on the ground, and Marcus Cox contributed with a 12-yard touchdown run that put the Mountaineers up 27-10 early in the fourth quarter. Jalen Moore added a touchdown run with 3:26 left to secure the victory for Appalachian State. Cox and Moore each went over 100 yards rushing.
The Eagles’ Darius Jones Jr.’s interception set up Younghoe Koo’s 32-yard field goal in the opening quarter. Jay Bowdry also had an interception for Georgia Southern.
Despite being vastly outmatched (279-43) in offensive yardage by the time kicker Michael Rubino gave the Mountaineers their first lead, 13-10, with 3:03 remaining in the third, the Eagles were unable to respond.
Georgia Southern is at Ole Miss on Saturday, Nov. 5, while the Mountaineers will host the Texas State Bobcats that same day.
