Premier League News: Leicester City Surprise Manchester City In 5-2 Defeat

In Week 3 of the Premier League, Leicester City surprised title favorites Manchester City in a 5-2 defeat at the Etihad.

Manchester City started the game well, with forward Riyad Mahrez scoring the opening goal for his side. Toward the end of the first half, Leicester were awarded a penalty after Manchester City’s Kyle Walker fouled Leicester’s Jamie Vardy in the penalty area. Vardy took the penalty and scored.
In the early minutes of the second half, Vardy scored another goal assisted by Timothy Castagne. Shortly after, the referee awarded Leicester a second penalty after Manchester City’s Eric Garcia brought down Vardy. Vardy took the penalty shot and scored his third goal.

Things got worse for Manchester City when Leicester’s James Maddison scored a terrific goal assisted by N. Mendy to make the score 4-1.

During the last minutes of the game, new signing Nathan Ake managed to score a header for Manchester City, but it was not enough to help his side draw or win the game. Minutes later, Leicester got a third penalty after Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy fouled Maddison. Youri Tielemans took the penalty and scored his side’s fifth goal.

This defeat is Manchester City’s first in the 2020/21 Premier League season and the first time the club concedes five goals in 438 games at the Etihad. On the other hand, Leicester City have won all three of their opening games in this season’s Premier League.

To get back into the Premier League title competition, Manchester City will have to strengthen their weak defense. Reports claim that the club is holding talks to sign a new defender before the transfer window closes. Benefica’s defender Ruben Dias is rumored to be joining the club.

In the upcoming Premier League fixtures, Manchester City will face Leeds United at Elland Road, while Leicester City will face West Ham United at the King Power Stadium.
