Pelicans’ Zion Williamson Allowed Skip Testifying In Improper Benefits Case

A Florida appeals court has granted New Orleans Pelicans’ rookie Zion Williamson’s request to prevent his having to testify in court on whether or not he received improper benefits prior to, or while he played for Duke

Williamson had been sued by his former marketing company, Prime Sports, and its owner, Gina Ford, after Williamson allegedly breached his contract with Prime Sports prior to signing with Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

Prior to Williamson being sued, he filed his own lawsuit against Prime Sports in North Carolina as a means to terminate his five-year contract with the company. Ford’s attorneys had submitted questions that they wanted Williamson to answer. One of those questions was for last year’s number one overall pick in the NBA to admit that he received improper benefits from Duke in order for him to sign there. This is an NCAA violation and if found true, there could be significant repercussions for the university.
