Pelicans Star Anthony Davis Questionable For All-Star Game

The Anthony Davis saga continues. Though he wasn’t able to join Lebron James out in Los Angeles and get the Lakers their seventeenth championship, the drama hasn’t stopped. First, Rich Paul of Klutch sports tried to maneuver a trade for Davis to the Lakers, leveraging the Boston Celtics‘ lack of salary cap flexibility until in June, the start of the new league year. But the New Orleans Pelicans management held on strong and Davis remained with the team as general manager Dell Demps wasn’t very intrigued by the Lakers young core. Then, the NBA stepped in and said that the Pelicans couldn’t rest Davis because it would hurt the sanctity of the game, also known as tanking. But drama for the Pels’ hasn’t stopped.

Most recently, the team parted ways with Demps. But more importantly, they’ve finally gotten a reason to sit Davis and preserve their biggest trade asset. On Thursday night, an MRI on Davis’ left shoulder revealed a muscle contusion.

During a Thursday night 131-122 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, Davis was injured in a collision at the end of the first half. He wasn’t seen on the bench after and reportedly left the arena with his agent, Paul.

Davis will still head to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the NBA All-Star game festivities but his participation is in doubt. He’ll seek treatment on his shoulder there in Charlotte and will see how he feels before deciding whether he can play on Sunday.

As for the rest of New Orleans, they’ve grown agitated with the Drama surrounding their star. New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry told reporters on Tuesday that he was done discussing trade rumors about Davis and that he wanted to focus on the players who have had to handle the last few chaotic weeks.

“I’m happy for all of them,” Gentry said. “Because to tell you the truth, this whole thing has been a dumpster fire…. We want guys to be professional and we want them to do this, but it’s hard for guys to go through what they’ve been through. And to be able to come out and beat a team of that quality, I’m happy for all the guys. I just thought they did a great job.”
