Patriots’ QB Drake Maye Will Not Need Off-Season Shoulder Surgery

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye told the media in his Tuesday press conference that he will not need surgery on his shoulder, which was giving him issues throughout the playoffs.

Maye also revealed that he received a painkilling injection before the game. Maye will just need to rest his shoulder this off-season and will be fully healthy heading into next season.

It was very evident that Maye’s shoulder was bothering him throughout the game, struggling to find a rhythm and underthrowing many of his wide receivers. Maye finished the game, completing 27 of his 43 passes for 295 yards. The majority of the yards came in the fourth quarter, setting a new Super Bowl record with 235 yards in the quarter.

Maye was the Patriots’ leading rusher with 37 rushing yards despite the shoulder injury.

Maye struggled throughout the entire playoffs, having more turnovers than touchdowns and only completing 58.3% of his passes compared to his regular-season percentage of 72%.

This comes after an extremely close MVP race between Maye and Matthew Stafford, with Stafford edging it out by one vote.

Maye and the Patriots will hope to break the second-year quarterback curse, as no quarterback who has made the Super Bowl in their second year has ever made it back.
