Oklahoma St. Head Football Coach Mike Gundy Accused Of Using N-Word During ’89 Game

It has not been a good week for Oklahoma State University’s head football coach Mike Gundy. First, on Monday a photo came to light of Gundy wearing a shirt with the logo of the conservative news network, OAN. This saw backlash from Gundy’s star running back with the Cowboys, Chuba Hubard. Gundy has since apologized for that and it seemed that all was forgiven. On Wednesday, however, it came out that Gundy used a racial slur toward a player back in 1989.

Back in 1989, while Gundy was a player for the Cowboys, his team was playing Colorado. During the game, former Colorado star Alfred Williams, among other players, claimed that Gundy used the n-word in the direction of Williams. 

In talking with the Oklahoman newspaper, Williams recalled the night. “I remember that it was the first time that the University of Colorado beat Oklahoma State while I was there. It was a big win,” he said. “It really was a big win. And I remember Mike Gundy called me the n-word. That’s what I remember.”

Williams noted that he wanted an apology from Gunday. “I want an apology from him, and I want to see him have some growth,” he said. “If he denies that he said [that], I have at least 20 people who will vouch for what happened that day.”

Oklahoma State nor Gundy have yet to comment on Williams’ claim.
