Ohio State Board Of Trustees Scheduled To Meet As Investigation Into Coach Urban Meyer Wraps Up

Ohio State’s Board of Trustees announced Monday that they will meet Wednesday morning to discuss matters pertaining to the investigation into head football coach Urban Meyer.

Ohio State Near Conclusion Of Urban Meyer Probe

According to USA Today, university officials stated the independent probe into 54-year-old Meyer would end by Sunday. The Buckeyes coach is being investigated for his handling of domestic violence accusations against Zach Smith, one of his former assistant coaches. Meyer was placed on paid administrative leave earlier this month, and Smith was fired in July.

Meyer — one of college football’s highest-paid coaches — is under contract with Ohio State until 2022 and could ultimately be fired, suspended or reinstated. Investigators continue to determine how much the head coach knew about Smith’s behavior and when he knew it. Court documents disclosed earlier this month revealed a series of text message exchanges between Meyer’s wife Shelley and Smith’s wife Courtney.

Courtney Smith reportedly told college football insider Brett McMurphy that all of the wives of Meyer’s assistant coaches knew about the way her husband was treating her.

“Do you have a restraining order? He scares me,” Shelley Meyer wrote to Courtney Smith in one of the text messages about Zach Smith.

During the Big Ten Media day earlier this year, Urban Meyer admitted he was aware of the allegations against Zach Smith since 2009, when the pair worked together as coaches the Florida Gators.
