New York City FC is at the top of the Eastern Conference standings this week.  The club holds a record of 8-6-5; four points ahead of the Philadelphia Union taking second place.

NYCFC has four consecutive wins — a club record — kicked off beating the Union, Seattle Sounders, New York Red Bulls and the New England Revolution. The last three matches were shutouts which is also a club record.  The club hasn’t won more than three matches in a row since the middle of May, so this is definitely something NYCFC fans are excited about.  NYCFC forward David Villa tweeted after the win:

NYCFC beat the Union 1-0 with a goal by midfielder Frank Lampard who scored by the edge of the six-yard box off a cross by Thomas McNamara in the 58th minute.  That was Lampard’s third goal of the season.  Goalkeeper Josh Saunders recorded the shutout.

“Having four wins in a row I think that gives us confidence and a happy camp to keep working and doing what we believe,” said New York City FC head coach Patrick Vieira.  The midfielders did their job against the Revolution stopping the Revs from playing inside the field and forcing the ball outside, he said.

The NYCFC have the best road form of the MLS with 5-2-1.

Up next for the club is a road match against Sporting Kansas City Sunday July 10 at 8:00 pm EST.
