The New York Mets are hoping that they will not have to place star pitcher Jacob DeGrom on the injured list.
DeGrom started Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Mets were looking to sweep the Diamondbacks with ace pitcher DeGrom on the mound. The starting pitcher only pitched five innings before leaving the game with an injury. DeGrom had flagged team training staff while warming up ahead of the sixth inning.
Mets manager Luis Rojas said that back tightness in DeGrom led to the call. Rojas told reporters in the post-conference saying that the All-Star pitcher would be undergoing an MRI. “Right side tightness is what we have from our medical staff here,” the manager told reporters. “Moreso in his lower back area on the right side, they’re taking a look.”

The 32-year-old pitcher only pitched for five innings, allowing one run, and six strikeouts before being removed from the game. The injury caused concern for the Mets because he is just six days removed after skipping a start due to inflammation in his right lat. Fortunately, Rojas told reporters that it is a separate injury and not related to his previous injury.
The initial prognosis regarding the pitcher is showing good signs for the Mets. DeGrom’s evaluation shows no serious or long-term injury. The All-Star pitcher’s next start could be delayed, but the most he would spend on the injury list is possibly 10-days. New York is confident that he will not be required to be placed on the injury list.
