NFL Will Not Suspend Tyreek Hill Following Child Abuse Allegations Investigation

The NFL released a statement on Friday regarding the status of Kansas City Chiefs‘ receiver Tyreek Hill and the concerning audio footage of him and his fiancee Crystal Espinal that was released roughly three months ago. The NFL have decided not to take action and suspend Hill ahead of the upcoming season.

In the audio, you can hear Espinal asking Hill if he was the one who broke their 3-year-old son’s arm. Espinal asks Hill, “why did he say daddy did it? Why did he say daddy did it? A 3-year-old is not going to lie about what happened to his arm,” Espinal said on the recording, according to KCTV and ESPN. “He is terrified of you.”

Hill responded, “You need to be terrified of me, too, b—,” according to ESPN.

The NFL have yet to release their reasoning regarding why Hill won’t be suspended, other than that they didn’t want to interfere with the county’s investigation, and that “local law enforcement authorities have publicly advised that the available evidence does not permit them to determine who caused the child’s injuries,” the NFL statement reads, according to NFL.com

After the league’s four month investigation, they relay that they couldn’t find any conclusive evidence against the allegations. Adam Schefter of ESPN said that Hill had a “very thorough interview” back when he met with league commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL on June 26.

Hill is now permitted to join the team training camp that will be opening up on July 30, and will be able to participate in all team activities ahead of their regular season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Back in 2015, Hill was kicked off his college football team, Oklahoma State, after he was found guilty of domestic abuse of Espinal in 2014. The case was lifted off his record after completing his probation requirements.

The Chiefs released a statement regarding the NFL’s decision. According to Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs’ statement says, “we have been informed of the decision by the National Football League that, based on the available evidence, the league has not found that Tyreek Hill violated the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy. Based on the information provided to us by the league, we have decided it is appropriate for Tyreek to return to the team at the start of training camp. The club fully supports the conditions for return laid out by the league and will continue to monitor any new developments in the case. We are glad to welcome Tyreek back to the team and look forward to the start of training camp next week.”
