On Tuesday, the Giants announced that they have waived defensive end Owamagbe Odighizuwa, who received a four-game suspension earlier this offseason for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy by taking performance-enhancing drugs.
Injured Giants players include cornerback Eli Apple, who suffered a minor left ankle sprain during the matchup against the Jets. However, Apple said he didn’t think the sprain would keep him out of the team’s regular season opener against the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington on Sept. 10, “but we’ll see.” Odell Beckham Jr. is still not practicing with the team after suffering an ankle sprain in the second preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
“He got some treatment, he’s in there taking care of himself, getting ready to go,” said coach Ben McAdoo of Beckham, who is expected to miss the remainder of the preseason but will likely be ready for the season opener.
Linebackers Mark Herzlich (stinger) and Keenan Robinson (concussion) continue to be held out of practice. Asked if injured reserve is a possibility for Herzlich, McAdoo said “we haven’t had those discussions at this point.”
The Patriots, meanwhile, have been dealt a major blow this preseason as wide receiver Julian Edelman suffered a torn right ACL in Friday’s game against the Lions. He is expected to be out for the season.
