In their last contest against each other in December 2015, the Jets defeated the Titans 30-8 at MetLife Stadium.

The Jets are entering their third season under head coach Todd Bowles. In 2016, the team went 5-11, much worse than the 10-6 it finished in 2015, when it reached the playoffs.

Bowles’ team has not yet named a starting quarterback for their preseason opener, although one of three passers could get the nod: Josh McCownChristian Hackenberg, or Bryce Petty.

McCown — who made his NFL debut in 2002 and spent the past two seasons in Cleveland — signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Jets in March after being released by the Browns in February.

Hackenberg was selected by the Jets as a second-round pick out of Penn State in 2016 but did not play in a game last season. Petty, a 2015 fourth-round pick out of Baylor, started four games in 2016.

Rookie safety Jamal Adams — whom the Jets selected as the No. 6 overall pick in this year’s Draft — is questionable to play on Saturday after injuring his ankle in practice on Aug. 3.

The Jets placed fourth-year wide receiver Quincy Enunwa on injured reserve with a neck injury earlier this week. Enunwa had a breakout season in 2016, finishing second on the team in receptions, yards and touchdown receptions.

Second-year tight end Jason Vander Laan has also impressed at the Jets’ training camp this year.

The Titans are entering their second season under head coach Mike Mularkey after finishing 9-7 in 2016. Tennessee won just three games in 2015. The six-win improvement matched the most in franchise history, a record set in two different years (1967 and 1974).

Last year’s team defeated six squads with winning records—Detroit, Miami, Green Bay, Denver, Kansas City and Houston—to tie the Dallas Cowboys for the most such wins in the NFL.  Five of those victories came against playoff teams (all except Denver), which tied the Packers’ total for the most in the league.

Third-year quarterback Marcus Mariota has returned for this year’s season after recovering from a right fibula injury that cut short his 2016 campaign. His 2016 numbers were among the Titans’ all-time best for a single season: Mariota completed 276 of 451 passes for 3,426 yards and 26 touchdowns with nine interceptions.

Among the players Tennessee signed this offseason are Patriots cornerback Logan Ryan, Jaguars safety Jonathan Cyprien, and Broncos tight end Sylvester Williams. Wide receiver Erick Decker was also added to the Titans’ roster late in free agency after spending the past three years with the Jets.

The Titans also added two first-round draft picks to their roster this year: Western Michigan wide receiver Corey Davis (No. 5) and Southern California cornerback Adoree’ Jackson (No. 18). This year marked the first time the Titans had two first-round draft selections since 1987.
