New York Jets Sign Former Buccaneers’ Receiver Breshad Perriman To 1-Year, $8 Million Deal

The New York Jets signed former Buccaneers‘ receiver Breshad Perriman to a one-year deal worth $8 million shortly after losing slot receiver Robbie Anderson in free agency to the Panthers on Tuesday. According to ESPN, the deal includes $6 million guaranteed.

The 26-year-old recorded 36 receptions for 645 yards, 17.9 yards per catch and six touchdowns in 2019, all career-highs. Perriman also appeared in 14 games, the most since his rookie season.

Originally a first round pick in the 2015 draft, Perriman has battled knee problems over the years including an injury that kept him sidelined his entire rookie season. In 2016, he played every game and compiled 33 receptions for 499 yards, 15.1 yards per catch and three touchdowns. The following season he appeared in just 11 games and finished with a measly ten receptions for 77 yards. He was subsequently released by Baltimore and signed with Cleveland where his numbers slightly increased as Perriman finished with 16 receptions for 340 yards, a career-high 21.3 yards per catch and two touchdowns in 10 games.

Breshad Perriman Stats

The Jets, however, may regret not re-signing Anderson who was the most productive receiver on the team the last three seasons. In 2019, Anderson finished with 52 receptions for 779 yards, 15.0 yards per catch and five touchdowns. Anderson is definitely the better player, but had two four-game stretches without a touchdown during the season and ultimately decided to sign a two-year, $20 million deal with Carolina, a price tag too expensive for New York. The organization is hopeful Perriman will take the next step in his development and be a comparable replacement for Anderson.
