There’s a special focus on this years Rising Stars challenge. The young talent hasn’t been limited to just the side but some have cracked the all-star roster. Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers is the reigning Rookie of the Year and will be playing back to back in the Rising Stars game as well as the All-Star game. Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic nearly cracked the all-star rosters himself but just missed it.

The Slam Dunk contest is drawing attention as well. The event is perfect for the social media age, producing five-second feats of athleticism that can go viral in minutes. Just look at New York Knicks star Dennis Smith Jr and his dunk from last year.

While Smith couldn’t pull it off last year, he gets another crack in 2019.

And let’s not forget that every event of the weekend leads up to one, the All-Star game. After changing the teams from conference-based rosters to captain-picked teams, the event had a competition to it that was absent for years. It took a last minute stand by team Lebron to beat team Stephen 148-145. James returns as a captain this year and will be ready to go with his squad against team Giannis
